Holidays are the time to put on the glitz and glamour, not just outfits for festive parties but also holiday gifts. When you give a very special bottle of wine, it can demonstrate thoughtfulness and good taste, as well as a gesture to cement personal and business relationships. And who doesn’t connect Champagne to the holidays?!
Maisons Marques & Domaines wine importers, a US subsidiary of Louis Roderer, has been committed for over 30 years to bringing quality wines to the US wine lover, as well as promoting the brands under their umbrella. An ambassador for a host of prestigious, family-owned producers, MMD USA represents 40 renowned winery brands, many from France but also extending to the US, Italy, Spain, Portugal and South Africa, even one from Canada! Their slogan, "Truth in Wine" is found around the world, from Alsatian Grand Cru Riesling to French Champagnes (Cristal!), the powerhouse Italian red wines of Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbara and Brunello di Montalcino, the summer in a glass Provence Rosés, the intriguing red and white wines of the Rhône, the jewels of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, the lively wines of the Loire Valley (Sauvignon Blancs and Chinon), ravishing Rioja wines from Spain, Chablis and Pinot Noir from Bourgogne, the list goes on and on. Many of the wines are highly rated, and not only include classic icons but span the range of new and surprising, such as the wave of stunning white wines coming from Italy. Not only are the wines an important part of MMD USA, but the story holds equal weight, such as organic and dry-farmed, new wine regions to explore, vegan wines, and great sparkling wines outside of France. Their philosophy extends beyond wine production, including respect for all peoples of the world, their ethics, culture and history, creating partnerships that shine the light on these very special wines.
This past May, Maisons Marques & Domaines came to Los Angeles for a rare walk-around tasting of their celebrated brands, held in the Beverly Hills Hotel. It was a chance for wine professionals to experience first-hand the glories of these globally recognized wines. Beautiful Bordeaux, intensely characterful Rhône wines, stunning Provence Rosé, sensational Loire Valley wines, amazing Alsace wines, intense Napa Valley wines, superb Italian reds, deeply satisfying Ports, and exciting ice wines from Canada, just a few recommendations for the holidays and all year long.
My favorites? As always, never enough time to taste all producers, but this sampling was exquisite.
