Wow, what a beauty! The second vintage of Lucky Rock Wine Co. County Cuvée Sauvignon Blanc surpasses the first one, reflecting a change of vineyard fruit. Brothers Aaron & Jesse Inman were able to snag Granzatto Vineyard clusters from Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley that fit with their quality and price category, which has elevated this already delicious wine. Sustainably farmed and certified, this clonal selection of Sauvignon Blanc imparts a riper quality to the finished wine. After an early morning harvest, the juice stayed in contact with the lees and wild yeasts for two days prior to fermentation, then underwent a low and slow tank fermentation over three weeks, with daily lees stirring. Aged in a mix of stainless steel and French oak barrels for over 6 months, it was bottled mid-March.
Tropical fruit aromas, especially guava and lime, with grassy notes unfurl from the glass. Riper and rounder than the previous year, it still has a juicy quality, with a slightly leesy mouthfeel that finishes vibrant and long-lasting. This is a high quality Sauvignon Blanc for a value price of SRP $17, so delicious and good with food or by the glass. I had it along with a Grilled Yellowtail Collar and Sashimi appetizer, it was really great alongside the raw fish. Of course, classic pairings would include seafood, soft cheeses, and summer pastas, to name a few. Lucky Rock is found in select wine shops and restaurants within California, and online at luckyrockwineco.com.
Lucky Rock Wine Co. was founded in 2013 by the Inman brothers, whose love of wine inspired them to make wines that can be enjoyed everyday. Prospecting for their own niche among California wines, these sons of gold miners have taken their “enjoying wine” sensibilities and translated them into two inaugural wines, the Lucky Rock County Cuvée Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. Wines that pair with the joy of life is their motto, more precisely “made with intention, not pretension”, easy drinking wines that reflect balance and California essence in the glass.
