Red, White, and Rosé Domaine Bousquet Organic Wines, Easy Summer Drinking That Offers Serious Value
July 11, 2025
“Summertime, and the living is easy” applies to our wine companions for the season, fresh, flavorful and food-friendly, and affordable enough to host all those summer soirées.  Domaine Bousquet makes expressive wines, marrying the know-how of French winemaking with Argentinean terroir, that are so very friendly to drink, yet inhabit the world of organic, biodynamic, sustainable and regenerative organic, a serious endeavor!  In fact, in 2024, Domaine Bousquet was the third best-selling producer of organic wines in the US.

Domaine Bousquet of Argentina has been committed to being eco-friendly for over a quarter century, even before it was trendy.  Located in the high altitude Uco Valley, this family-owned winery, with a deep history of winemaking in France, found the ideal spot to organically grow vines.  High altitude mitigates heat in this desert climate, Andes breezes and snowmelt nurture the vines, and the sandy soils produce more elegant wines.  For over thirty years, the family has strived to align their business with providing healthier options for the consumer and the environment.  Domaine Bousquet has achieved numerous certifications, most notably for consumers, certified organic, sustainable, and regenerative organic.  In fact, they are the first winery outside the US to earn the ROC™ status, which is a more in-depth certification adding soil health, animal welfare and social fairness to the mix.

Recently, I had the chance to sample five wines from their Organic Reserve and Gaia lineups.
Picture
The Domaine Bousquet Reserve are elegant wines, estate-grown with low yields, certified organic, with more body, tannin and flavor than the classic Bousquet lineup.  Selling for an incredible SRP $18, I sampled the 2023 vintages of the Organic Chardonnay and Organic Malbec.  These are fresh, aromatic and fruit-forward wines, really channeling the high altitude terroir.

The Bousquet Reserve Organic Chardonnay is such a delight, well-balanced with mouthwatering acidity, texture from the lees and oak aging, with tropical aromas, citrus and lime notes, a structured palate, finishing long and persistent.  This was delicious, and the value price was a bonus.  It was so good you can drink it by the glass, or would pair well with chicken, seafood, cheese, or pasta dishes with cream sauce.

The Bousquet Reserve Organic Malbec entices with its rich aromas and high-toned pure flavors of raspberry, blackcurrant, cassis and fig, accented by chocolate and tobacco notes, well-balanced with lively acidity and a long finish.  This is another great value, especially for summer barbecues centered around chicken, beef, grilled vegetables, and pasta dishes.

The Domaine Bousquet Gaia wines are also estate grown and organic, but, in addition, biodynamic (2022) and regenerative organic ROC™, starting with the 2024 vintage.  The name Gaia comes from Greek mythology, representing the divine personification of Earth and the mother of all life, in short, the Earth Goddess!  And the label is beautiful!  I sampled three wines, a Pinot Noir Rosé, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Gaia Organic and Biodynamic Rosé 2024 (SRP $20) is 100% Pinot Noir, with a pale salmon color and fresh palate of strawberries and red fruit, alongside orange zest and floral notes.  This is definitely an aperitif wine, light and fresh.
Picture

The Gaia Organic and Biodynamic Malbec 2022 (SRP $25) is 100% Malbec, fruity and intense with aromas of ripe red fruits and violet notes, with a good finish.  This was a very good pair with salmon, as its acidity stood up to the fattiness of the fish.

The Gaia Organic and Biodynamic Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 (SRP $25) is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, friendly and delicious with mouth-filling black and red fruit, graphite notes, and a structured body with medium tannins.  It had enough acidity and intensity to complement a meat pasta dish beautifully.

According to Origins Organic Imports of Miami, Domaine Bousquet is not only a leader in the organic wine arena, but with its affordable price tag, has increased its annual sales at a time when many wineries have seen slumping demand.  Their Nielsen data shows a 12% uptick in sales, placing Domaine Bousquet #3 in organic and Argentine wine categories in the US market.  Domaine Bousquet’s co-owner Labid al Ameri feels that, “Consumers may opt not to pay more for an organic wine, but they will happily choose it, and feel good about it, if it is the same price as a less environmentally conscious option”.
Picture
And especially, if the wines are this delicious, it’s a feel-good experience all the way around!
